1. Reminder: Register for the Fall Fireside Chat with Van Williams

 

UC-systemwide VP of Information Technology Services and CIO Van Williams will be speaking on the last two years of his appointment as well as upcoming plans for the UC tech community.  As CIO, he serves as the leader and chief strategist for the UC IT workforce, with strategies that have prioritized goals such as improving information security.

2. Reminder: Register for Design Systems for Developers

 

UCLA Strategic Communications invites BruinTech members to join them at their upcoming workshop dedicated to covering the practical use of their new UCLA Design System. This workshop will review documentation, explore component code, discuss browser-testing best practices, and showcase real-world implementations. StratComm will also discuss their criteria for anyone interested in contributing to the design system.

3. Electronic Records Day Webinar: Mark as Read, Managing Email Overload

 

On Nov. 1, the UC will observe Electronic Records Day with “Mark as Read, Managing Email Overload.” This webinar will consist of presentations from experts from across the system in archives, records management, privacy, and information security, and finish off with a Q&A session.

4. Grand Opening of Rosenfeld Hall

Join the UCLA Simulation Center and Center for Advanced Surgical & Interventional Technology (CASIT) at the Grand Opening of Rosenfeld Hall! The Rosenfeld Hall, previously named the Learning Resource Center, serves as UCLA Sim’s primary facility for healthcare simulation training and has recently gone through major renovations to be equipped with three floors of state-of-the-art technology.

At the grand opening event, visitors will go on a tour of the newly renovated facility and also experience live interactive demonstrations of simulation training tools, which include robotics, VR, and more. The full agenda will also include a raffle, live music, and refreshments!

5. Former UCLA chancellor Charles E. Young has died at 91

The namesake of multiple iconic spaces at UCLA, former chancellor Charles E. Young died of natural causes on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023. Having led UCLA for 29 years from 1968 to 1997, Young guided UCLA into becoming a world-class research university, as well as championed diversity and inclusion in higher education. 

Some of the many advances UCLA saw under his tenure include the creation of multiple ethnic studies centers; major expansions of UCLA Foundation, the medical enterprise, UCLA Athletics, and more; and the completion of numerous on-campus buildings.
