Social engineering, in the context of information security, refers to the use of psychological manipulation to trick people into divulging sensitive information (information gathering) or performing actions (fraud, unauthorized system access).  Rosa L. Smothers, Senior Vice President of Cyber Operations at KnowBe4, will discuss these types of approaches and ways to be a "human firewall" for UC and your digital life.

Human Hacking & Social Engineering with Chad Spensky, CEO of Allthenticate. UC Santa Barbara Information Security. Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

He is currently the CEO of Allthenticate, a company that is revolutionizing authentication by offering an all-in-one, smartphone-based identity management and authentication solution.

3. Event: Take Control of Your Security and Privacy on Social Media! Cybersecurity Workshop

Learn tips and tricks to lock down your social media accounts with guest speakers Diana Freed, Researcher and PhD Candidate at Cornell University and Julio Poveda, PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Maryland.This event will be co-hosted by UCSC ITS Information Security Assistant, Magdalena Ramirez and UCSC ITS Compliance/UISL Coordinator, Cecilia Carrillo. Due to our speakers' privacy requests, this event *will not* be recorded. It’s a must not miss event!

5. And now for something completely different...The 17th Annual Los Angeles Archives Bazaar

Free and open to the public

"THE STORIES OF L.A. ALL DAY. ALL IN ONE PLACE."  The L.A. AS SUBJECT consortium brings to life the diverse, often hidden stories that make Southern California such a fascinating place of discovery. The annual LOS ANGELES ARCHIVES BAZAAR offers a one-stop opportunity to interact with dozens of archives, from large institutions to private collectors.

In addition to exhibitors, the bazaar will feature workshops on preserving fragile books, audio recordings, and home movies, as well as discussions on the World War II-era Nobel Prize-winning author Thomas Mann and the creation of “Weimar on the Pacific,” the origin of the Southern California Filipino community and the preservation of its identity through the Filipino-American Library, and the work done by the youth focused community arts organization Color Compton.

This year, UCLA features 3 informational tables:  Library Special Collections (LSC), UCLA Punk Collective, and the History Geography Project and Lost LA.  Come support your colleagues!

USC follows current Los Angeles County Department of Health guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which strongly recommend mask wearing indoors. Masks will be provided for exhibitors and attendees.
