Friday Five for July 5th, 2024

1. BruinTech Board Nominations Open

If you haven’t heard already, the BruinTech Board nomination period is open until Friday, July 19. You can nominate a colleague or yourself (which is actually very common!). Being a BruinTech Board member is an amazing opportunity to:

  • Shape the future of BruinTech programming 
  • Build your toolkit and learn how to be a leader
  • Connect with other IT areas on-campus
  • Grow your understanding of what it means to be IT at UCLA

All positions are open for nominations including the President-Elect. The 2024-25 President and outgoing President are already pre-established. You can view the roles and responsibilities on our By-Laws page

2.  BruinTech Meet the Board!

Now that nominations for next year’s board are open, we really encourage our community members to come hang out with us over lunch. Attend our BruinTech Meet the Board event to learn more about our respective roles, as well as our experience as board members. This is a great chance to see if board membership is for you (or your colleagues).

We'll be available for questions and will also be hosting a second Meet the Board in the future!

3. Thank you for attending our Ice Cream Social!

BruinTech, it was so great to see our community in-person! We hope you got to catch up with colleagues while also meeting some new faces from other departments. Thank you to Joon Lee and Joy Guey for speaking about the Technical Management Program, and thank you CISO Drake Chang for presenting about Unit Information Security Leads.

And last but not least, huge kudos to Saffron and Rose for delicious ice cream – a perfect treat for the weather.

4. UX in Leadership of Libraries Summer 2024 Meetup

Lightning talks, web redesigns, content strategy, digital collections… in libraries! Those involved in UX design for libraries or simply interested in learning more about this area of UX can join UX Leadership of Libraries during their summer meetup. You’ll have the chance to speak with practitioners of UX and also leaders from across multiple universities.
