1. BruinTech 2024 Scholarship Applications are Open!

The 2023-24 BruinTech Executive Board is pleased to announce that the 2024 Application Form is now open for our annual scholarship program!

For 2024, we're excited to be awarding four (4) scholarships in total:

  • Three (3), $1,000 scholarships for a UCLA Extension course
  • One (1), Jackie Reynolds Scholarship which covers the cost of a seat to the UCLA Extension Technical Management Program (TMP).

Submit your application today! (Deadline is Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 12 PM PST)

2. Ascend Town Hall and Office Hours

Registration is now open for the upcoming Ascend 2.0 Townhall!

Ascend 2.0 leadership and subject matter experts will discuss a variety of topics, including the following:

  • The launch of BruinBuy Plus and resources to help you and your department navigate and use the new system
  • Progress toward the implementation of Bruin Finance, including information about the future of financial reporting and business analytics
  • Upcoming engagement opportunities and ways to stay informed of program happenings
  • Members of the program team will field attendee questions during a live Q&A session

3. What the Future Holds: A UC Congress on the Impact and Promise of Artificial Intelligence

UCLA will serve as host for the upcoming UC Congress, bringing together leaders and groups across the system’s campuses, health systems, and labs to examine both the advances and challenges brought to the table by AI. Keynote speakers include Daron Acemoglu (MIT) and Safiya Umoja Noble (UCLA), and discussions will center around topics of interest, such as AI’s effect on future job markets and how to assess and reduce bias in AI.

Although in-person attendance to this event is by invite only, the organizers will be updating with online options soon. More info about the Academic Congress can be found on the UC IT Blog.

4. Save the Date: Celebrating Womxn in Tech Speaker Series

Come celebrate Women’s History Month with UC Womxn in Tech! Leading up to International Women’s Day, the UC WIT committee is hosting two speakers in alignment with this year’s IWD theme of DigitALL: Innovation & Technology for Gender Equality.

Brandie M. Nonnecke, Ph.D., Director of the CITRIS Policy Lab and Associate Research Professor in the Goldman School of Public Policy

Dr. Lauren F. Klein, Winship Distinguished Research Professor and Associate Professor in Quantitative Theory & Methods and English at Emory University.

5. EDUCAUSE - Conflict Resolution, Coaching, and Accountability: Developing Powerful Working Relationships

As part of the EDUCAUSE Leadership Series, Shari Harley, MA, will lead four sessions over the course of three weeks. The series is aimed at higher education leaders or team members who manage people and/or processes.
