Friday Five for August 2nd, 2024

1.  UC Cyber Security Summit: Last day for early bird pricing

The UC is hosting its 15th Cyber Security Summit at UC Irvine in October. Today, August 2, is the last day to register while paying an early registration discount rate of $85.00. Starting August 3, the registration fee will be bumped up to $120.00. If cyber security and cyber risk management are areas of interest, this would be a great event to boost your knowledge and network.

Register by the end of day to take advantage of cheaper rates.

2. Business Continuity Town Hall

Come join the UCLA Business Continuity Town Hall to get updates on lessons learned from the past year, data on the state of UCLA staff commutes, and more insight on how the campus can respond during emergency situations that may affect operations. You should join this town hall if you are interested in developing staff contingencies during crises.

When: Wednesday, August 7 at 10:00AM - 11:00AM (PST)

Where: Virtual

3. UC Information Technology Policy and Security (ITPS)

Join the ITPS listserv to receive system wide information security updates, exchange ideas and ask questions. ITPS group members also meet on a regular basis – the second Wednesday of the month at 9:00 AM to share information and discuss case studies. The next meeting is scheduled for August 14 and will do a dive into healthcare cybersecurity. To get involved, contact Wendy Rager, Cyber-risk Coordination Center Manager at wendy.rager@ucop.edu.

4. Recent leadership changes

In case you haven’t already heard, both the UC and UCLA are undergoing large transitions as different leaders step down:

  • August 1 marked Darnell Hunt’s first day as UCLA’s interim chancellor until the arrival of our next chancellor Julio Frenk in January 2025.
  • On July 31, UC President Michael Drake announced he will be stepping down from his position at the end of the 2024-25 academic year.
