1. Intersection of Technology and Human Cognition 

We are living in an era where technology intersects with human cognition. These advancements are advantageous in certain areas, but it also has brought about misinformation and digital manipulations.   In a recent video, UC Berkeley’s digital forensics expert, Hany Farid, a professor of electrical engineering and computer science, delves into the complexities of political deepfakes.  

Learn how advancements in generative AI have made it increasingly difficult to distinguish real content from manipulated media. Note the significant impact of deepfakes on political landscapes where fabricated videos and images have influenced public opinion and even elections.

2. What is User Experience(UX) at UCLA?

Join the new UCLA UX group for a facilitated discussion on what user experience means, what it means at UCLA specifically, and how to use UX practices in your day-to-day work. This is open to all whether you’re just curious about UX or a seasoned professional.

We want to hear your questions and contributions and figure out together how to best support and grow UX at UCLA.

3. Open AI Project Proposals

Call for OpenAI Project Proposals - Phase 1

UCLA has announced a Call for OpenAI Project Proposals as part of a broader initiative to explore and implement generative AI technologies across campus. Successful proposals will receive up to 10 OpenAI licenses and in-kind support, including AI training materials and access to an AI community Slack channel. 

The goals of the program include fostering innovation, collaboration, capacity building, and community development through the use of generative AI.

The initiative is divided into two phases:

Phase 1 (October 1 - October 30)

Eligibility: UCLA Information Technology Services (ITS) and IT Strategic Partners (ITSPs). 

Phase 2 (November 1 - November 30th)

Eligibility: All Student,s Faculty, Staff and Researchers at UCLA

4. Educause Annual Conference

Educause Annual Conference Registration Open!

The EDUCAUSE Annual Conference 2024 will take place in San Antonio from October 21-24, with an online segment on November 13-14. This event brings together higher education technology professionals and providers from around the world to network, share ideas, and explore solutions to current challenges.

Highlights include premium programming on the latest trends, numerous networking opportunities, and access to innovative technology solutions. Notable speakers include Dr. Brené Brown and Jaron Lanier.
