2. From Blender to VR: Building Immersive Worlds
The XR Design Subcommittee is excited to welcome everyone to their ‘XRI Design Speaker Series Talk’ for a dynamic session on immersive workflows and creative development for VR.
This hands-on session with media producer, XR designer, and UCLA Extension instructor Keram Malicki-Sanchez explores a creative workflow for building and publishing immersive experiences using Blender and the Godot engine. Attendees will learn about processes for preparing 3D assets, optimizing them for performance, and deploying them into an interactive VR environment — all using free, open-source tools.
For designers, developers, artists, educators, or those simply curious about how immersive media is made, this session offers an accessible and inspiring look at the creative process behind VR production and how to optimize for it up front. Drawing from his deep experience in immersive storytelling, game design, and event production, Keram will share real-world strategies for bringing ideas to life in XR.
