12:00pm - 1:00pm Lunch Break

1:00pm - 1:20pm How to build meaningful connection in the IT community

Annelie Rugg, Director and Humanities CIO, UCLA Humanities Technology

One of the most important soft skills for technologists is to build meaningful connections in the IT community at UCLA and beyond. Allow me to share what I've done and learned, and suggest some simple steps you can take to start or expand your own technical network.

About the presenter:

I am the Director and Humanities CIO at UCLA's Humanities Technology, which I've led since 2008. Because community building is my thing, I've led or been involved in IT governance committees, participated in campus work groups, and helped with major projects, especially in instructional technology (CCLE and Bruin Learn) and Digital Humanities.

1:20pm - 1:40pm Adobe Express Web Pages & Google Sites

Adela Hernandez, Content Management Specialist, Research Enhancement Office, UCLA Research & Creative Activities

How to enhance events and make an impression by using free resources such as Adobe Express and Google Sites.

About the presenter:

Adela Hernandez was previously the Development Coordinator for UCLA Health Operation Mend. Operation Mend provides surgical and medical treatment to post-9/11 service members, veterans, and their families. In addition to her administrative duties, Adela handled Operation Mend’s social media channels and created websites to help raise funds and awareness for the program. She is currently the Content Management Specialist for the Research Enhancement Office and uses tools such as Adobe Express and Google Sites to create graphics, event pages, and content design for printed materials.

1:40pm - 2:00pm Using GitHub Day-to-Day at UCLA

Cody Ashe-McNalley, Information Systems Supervisor, Physical Science

GitHub has grown beyond git repos, into a hub for much of our digital
work. We in IT need to learn how to use this platform across academic, instructional, and operational roles.

About the presenter:

Cody represents staff IT on the campuswide team rolling out GitHub Enterprise Cloud. A slow learner, Cody has re-read Getting Started with Git far too many times.
